Sadakichi Hartmann - Twilight hours
White petals afloat
On a winding woodland stream—
What else is life’s dream!
Sadakichi Hartmann’s haikus, tanka and dodoitsus were at the core of his modernist experimentation, yet at the same time a way of writing his way back into the heritage he had lost as a Japanese child emigrant. His poems featured rhyme and rhythm in addition to syllable count, in a manner similar to much of the early French and Spanish haikuists. This collection gathers together all his published Japanese-form poetry.
