The elongated moon ruffles 

Like a silver poplar.

Jean-Aubert Loranger wrote his haikus and tankas as a modernist reaction to the Quebec nativist writers around him, yet paradoxically, he chose to populate them with pictures of provincial life, full of pathos and mystery. (first English translation)
